the talk market: a great new way to shop green

September 22nd, 2008 by kristen ·

While attending the BlogWorld Expo in Vegas this past weekend, I discovered the coolest new way to shop. The company is called The Talk Market and the concept is awesome… Essentially, it’s like a you-choose-what-to-watch QVC for blogs. In fact, the co-founders both worked for QVC and combined sold over 500,000 items there. As a result of their extensive experience in television and music production and the development of a great idea, they’ve created the online shopping channel, The Talk Market.

This is how it works: The artist/owner of a particular item creates a video about the product. They tell you a little bit about themselves/their company and explain the product and why it’s special. The video is then made available to bloggers via Talk Market. You watch the video here on MuseGreen, and if it’s something that you’re interesting in buying, click on the “Buy Now!” button. It then takes take you through a super easy shopping cart system. Purchases are sent through a reliable and secure system developed by Amazon.com, so you know your information is safe.

Here’s the best part: Any items that you see through a Talk Market video on MuseGreen.com, click on and buy as a result will allow us to donate 2% to the environment. You get wonderful, unique products while helping talented artists and small businesses and MuseGreen then makes a donation to the environment as a result of your purchase. Everybody wins!

It’s so much more interesting than the usual online shopping experience. The creators of Talk Market are striving to offer a number of sustainable goods and currently have a nice, growing selection of eco-friendly, organic and natural products. There are many more green products to come, so check back often on MuseGreen.com. Or you can follow us on Twitter and we’ll send you a tweet when there’s a new post: @musegreen.

Here are a few of my favorites:

This beautiful light block from Brave Space Design out of Brooklyn, NY is made from safe (low VOC), recycled resin and comes equipped with a CFL bulb:

Tiny Living, a company based in New York City (home to many a tiny living space!), focuses on smart products that help small spaces but can make homes of every size more organized. Used by many top chefs, magnetic knife racks are convenient, sturdy and are an incredibly practical way to store metal tools. Tiny Living has added an element of beauty and sustainability by covering the metal with bamboo. It’s still incredibly strong and looks great to boot.

Artist, actor and environmentalist Aaron Foster’s work has been praised and purchased by a number of celebrities and art connoisseurs. One of Aaron’s recent pieces is an incredible commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the peace sign. Made from reclaimed wood and license plates from all fifty states, its folk-art feel cleverly communicates a simple yet powerful statement about our desire for peace in this country and beyond.

BazaardelaPaz is an eco-friendly store out of New York City that is selling beautiful hand-painted tea bag candle holders fairly traded by the Original T-Bag Design Company out of South Africa. The tea bags are collected in the community, recycled and then dried in the sun. Through the drying process, the color of the tea bag changes to a lovely shade of brown or gold. They are then ironed and hand-painted. Each candle holder is a one-of-a-kind work of art.

If you find something on TalkMarket that you want to purchase but don’t see it on MuseGreen, please send us an email at: musegreen@gmail.com so your purchase can help the planet. We’ll check out the item and get back to you when we’ve posted it on the blog. Thanks for helping us help the environment!
