I discovered a great site today, Botanical Paperworks, that sells gorgeous flower paper. The paper contains wildflower seeds that can be planted after use. I’ve seen many sites with wildflower paper, but this one offers more products than similar sites I’ve run across. I was going to get wildflower wedding invites for my wedding a couple of years ago but the selection I found on other sites was disappointing. On this site they have a number of different options, from monogrammed to metropolitan, from a blossom design (shown) to a four folded panel with wax seal. They also come in a nice assortment of colors these days. Very cool.
For the bride that wants everything wildflower – they also have favors, placecards, tiny gift boxes, bookmarks, thank you cards, guestbooks… The list goes on and on. They even have scented ink and beautiful plume pens that can be used with the guestbooks.
If you’re looking for birth announcements, baby shower favors, or invites for a bat/bar mitzvah, birthday, holiday party or graduation, they’ve got those as well. It would be a nice idea for a recent grad with a degree in the biological or environmental sciences. My B.Sc. was in Environmental Education and I would have loved using these invites for my graduation party.
One cool feature of the site is that they will do the printing for you. They offer several different colors of ink, from standard black to red and even violet (for a small extra charge), so your paper is personalized before you get them. We printed out our own wedding invitations and I wish I’d had that done. Would have saved some real printer headaches!
I’m terrible at keeping plants alive, so I was concerned about how complicated the process was for planting this paper. Turns out that it’s pretty simple and even someone with a less-than-green thumb can do it. That’s a big benefit to guests like me who will only do something like this if it’s easy!
To plant the seed paper, follow these instructions:
(1) Prepare a pot of soil or small patch of garden.
(2) Remove the seeded paper piece from the stationery and place it on the top.
(3) Spread a thin layer of soil onto the paper.
(4) Water well and give plenty of sunshine. Keep moist during germination.
The paper contains a mix of high quality annual and perennial seeds. Some of the wildflowers they use are: Bird’s Eye, Clarkia, Coreopsis, Poppy, Catchfly and Snap Dragon.

OK – I’m going to have to get some of this to bolster my green-thumb image!
