prince charles warns that we’re running out of time

Did you know that the Earth’s population is growing at a rate of 6,000,000 per day and that resources we take for granted – such as the water we use to rinse off our latest cure for split ends are running drastically low, especially in the more remote parts of the globe?

Speculation has it that the strain on our natural resources could lead to mass migration and maybe even civil unrest in years to come. Doesn’t sound good, does it? I guess we could call it all complete bollocks and bury our head in the sand – that might make us feel better, for a while, but one guy who certainly will not do that is our very own Prince Charles.

Now, the Prince of Wales is no stranger to controversy and has long been outspoken on climate change. He’s been saying it for years – even when it wasn’t a trendy thing to do. Slated as being ever so slightly batty by his subjects, his opinions on global warming and genetically modified foods have abounded ever since I can remember.

This month is no exception with Prince Charles’ latest warning that we have “less than 100 months to act” to save the planet from irreversible damage caused by climate change. The need to tackle global warming is more urgent now than ever and that, even in a recession, the world must not lose sight of the ‘bigger picture’. A sentiment that harks back to what he said in Sao Paulo back in 1991 a the start of the last recession. Then he stated that caring for the world’s long-term welfare should be become a ‘luxury’.

It is believed that the British Government want to make more use of the Prince’s experience and expertise on climate change and that his passion to protect the environment is greatly respected abroad but maybe has been under-used in Britain, in the past.

He argues that being green can be good for businesses and create jobs and that tackling deforestation in the 3.5billion acres of rainforest on the planet is a priority.

The Prince is also due to meet with President Obama next month when he comes to Britain for the G20 summit. I have a feeling it will be a very productive meeting…

We’re running out of time… Is that why Prince Charles and Camilla, and thirty servants, are swanning around South America in a great big luxury Airbus 318 jet plane?

Thanks for the comment. I see the Daily Mail also has some fab photos to go with the article :)
Despite the baggage, he will be getting the word out there which is the important thing and probably more effective than 100 no-names, each with their own plane ticket, trying to do the same thing. Plus, he does say he will be offsetting his carbon emissions so that’s at least something.
