I’m not sure about you – but my morning routine starts with a good cup of (fair trade) coffee from my new, high tech whiz bang coffee grinder/brewing device. It’s just the job to help me shepherd all 4 kids off to school and it sets me up for a long day in the office.
Julia over at Good Earth Coffee just sent over these great tips to try out this St. Patrick’s Day. If you’re feeling dangerous – then I guess you could leave in the magic whiskey ingredient in your 7:30am brew and see how that effects your productivity!
Good Earth’s Tips for a Perfect ‘Green’ Irish Coffee:
1. Use 4 essential organic ingredients, Organic Coffee (like Good Earth, of course!), Organic Whiskey, Heavy Organic Crème, and Organic Brown Sugar
2. Take the guess work out of it all – brewing the perfect cup of coffee does not have to always out of pure luck! Make sure you find your right ratio; the amount of water to coffee is a critical factor in great brewing. The Good Earth Coffee experts recommend using 1 tablespoons of coffee for every 6 fluid ounces of fresh, cold water. Of course all coffee brewers work differently, so you might need to adjust the recipe to your personal taste. Always make sure to use cold, fresh water for the best flavor. If you don’t like the taste of your tap water, you won’t like it in your coffee, so use filtered water instead.
3. In order to get to your desired destination (a perfect cup) you must follow the specific order of ingredients. Start with a shot of whiskey poured into your coffee mug. Next slowly stir in 1 tsp of brown sugar until dissolved. Then pour your (steaming) coffee in to the mix filling 1/3 of the way full. Finally top with (your desired amount of) heavy crème (try to get it to ‘float’ on top by turning a spoon upside down and then slowly pouring the cream over the spoon and into the cup. This will only work if you added sugar to your coffee though!)
Bottom’s up!
